New den of thieves

KOOWEERUP police has warned residents to ensure they lock their cars and homes, following a number of recent break-ins.
Sergeant Steve Eckhardt said four cars were broken into over the last month. Sgt Eckhardt spoke strongly during a Kooweerup township meeting, about the need for people to lock their cars and keep valuables out of sight.
He said Kooweerup was no longer the “sleepy little town it used to be” and residents were now subject to this sort of crime as much as the city.
Sgt Eckhardt also reported on the break-in of the home of a senior resident – who was at home and was quite traumatised by the experience.
He said locals needed to rid themselves of a country mentality that in which “everyone trusts everyone.”
