Chicks show how it’s done

DANDENONG and District Junior Football League has taken out its fourth straight Youth Girls Cup after coming from behind to beat Western Youth Girls by 25 points at Preston City Oval.
Locals Bianca Jakobsson (Berwick) and Lauren Chalkley (Narre South) led from the front, combining for six goals for the afternoon with Tess Butler the third Berwick girl representing DDJFL on the day.
DDJFL had the ideal lead into the grand final after comfortably knocking off WYG, Northern Youth Girls and Eastern Youth Girls, but found the going tough in the grand final.
Needing to negotiate early pressure from WYG, the girls representing DDJFL found initiating the run game a laborious task.
With the scores level at half time, DDJFL coach Daniel Kerr used the break to point out what needed to be done.
“I pretty much told them to pull their finger out,” Kerr said.
“We needed to go back to the way we had played in the previous three games. We needed our run going and our teamwork, and I told them to attack the ball more because we were standing off a bit,” Kerr said.
Jakobsson and Chalkley as well as Emma Pearce (Narre Warren) stood up in the last half to lead their side to their fourth straight cup win.
