Shire’s first Liberty Swing

PAKENHAM youngsters can swing into adventure at the shire’s new access to all abilities playground.
The PB Ronald Reserve adventure playground is now open and residents who use a wheelchair can enjoy playground fun with the installation of Cardinia Shire’s first Liberty Swing.
A free key is required to operate the swing and can be obtained from a number of locations in the shire on completion of a key access form.
Cardinia Shire Council’s Access for All Abilities Officer Elke Timm said the swing has created the opportunity for those who are in a wheelchair to enjoy a swing experience.
“The wheelchair can slide into the Liberty Swing or the person can be assisted onto a seat with straps inside the capsule,” Ms Timm said. “What it means is a family who may have a member in a wheelchair can come down to the adventure playground and everyone can have the opportunity to have a go on the equipment.”
Residents can pick up a key from the council offices in Henty Way, Pakenham, Service Central at 6B Henry Street, Pakenham and Cardinia Life, 4 Olympic Way, Pakenham (including after hours).
Council advises care is needed when operating the swing and instructions are issued with the key and are on the swing itself. The key also allows residents to access other Liberty Swings around Australia.
Variety Australia provided the $23,000 swing which was installed as part of the $180,000 upgrade to the adventure playground, funded by council and the Department of Sport and Recreation Victoria.
