A few good men

By Emma Sun
A new committee was elected last month, and RSL president Don Buntine is already putting out a call for new members.
“We need new blood, new ideas,” Mr Buntine said.
“We would like more associate and social members to assist in running the sub-branch.”
“We’re not going to expand unless we can expand membership,” Gary Elliott of the West Gippsland Vietnam Veterans Association said.
With Remembrance Day coming up – and it being a high priority on their list – members are concerned there aren’t enough volunteers to help sell poppies.
“Pakenham RSL is one of the top 10 fundraisers in the state, even with our reduced membership numbers.” Mr Buntine said.
“(The numbers) will diminish unless we can get help,” Mr Elliott said.
The RSL hall is available for hire to all community groups who require a hall.
The majority of the funds raised go to welfare services. Ex-servicemen and widows are encouraged to join to receive welfare benefits.
“There’s no pressure, you don’t have to join, just give us a call,” Mr Buntine said.
