The date marked the 65th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima, which students have studied as part of their exploration of Japanese culture.
The story of Sadako and the 1000 paper cranes has been a particular favourite.
Sadako died in 1955 from leukaemia, which was attributed to the atomic blast. She died before she was able to complete the 1000 paper cranes that legend said would help her live a long and healthy life.
Her school friends finished the folding for her and raised money for a memorial, which stands in the children’s park in Hiroshima.
The Gembrook Primary School community, including parents, have folded more than 2000 paper cranes that will be send to Hiroshima later in the year.
The children thought blowing bubbles was a way they could show Gembrook and the world they want a more peaceful future.
