Dates to remember

IT HAS been talked about for years.
Over a couple of red wines, the girls from the Pakenham Netball Club finally decided to go ahead with a cracking fundraiser idea: A 2011 black and white calendar.
Instead of going the easy route and trying to raise money by selling chocolates, Pakenham netballer Lauren Cherry said this year they would adopt a novel approach.
“Instead of the usual we went a bit different this year and it’s something we hope to do annually now,” she said. “I’ve had a sneak look and they look pretty good.”
This Saturday will be the official calendar launch at the Pakenham Football Club where interested buyers can pick up a copy for $25 on the night as well as seeing a slideshow of the shoot.
A few Sundays ago the Pakenham Netball team arrived at the Pakenham Football Club about 9am and spent the whole day with photographer Genelle Bevan, who arranged the girls in different poses and incorporated props into the final images for the calendar.
A few of the girls hid behind a steel fence, others held sporting props like a basketball and some held weights or skipping ropes.
Cherry said it was the first time that any of the girls had attempted a shoot for a calendar.
“We’d had a few champagnes, but it was pretty daunting when you are up there with the rest of the team watching each other,” she said. “But to do it was fun and it was a great bonding day.”
Asked about how people will perceive the calendar once released, Cherry was hopeful it would evoke a positive reaction.
“We still wanted it to be quite tasteful and sporty and certainly didn’t want to go over the top,” she said.
“We wanted it to be sophisticated but sexy at the same time, so we are hoping it will go down well.”
