No roses for Rye

RYE missed out on a last-gasp opportunity to grab a top three finish after losing a nailbiter by four points to Dromana in the final home and away round of the division on Saturday.
Despite a four-goal haul from former Richmond forward Steve Ryan, the Demons stumbled into fifth position and must play fourth-placed Rosebud in next weekend’s cut-throat elimination final.
The Buds also went down with top side Sorrento cruising to a 97-point victory over them on the back of a best on ground performance from coach and ex-St Kilda utility player, Troy Schwarze.
Other winners in round 18 were Tyabb over Red Hill, Somerville over Pearcedale and Hastings over Crib Point.
Mt Eliza charged back to score a significant 44-point victory over Seaford in round 17 of the Peninsula League.
Lloyd Williams was named best afield, while Scott Lockwood and Luke Peel were dangerous in attack for the Redlegs.
Frankston YCW confirmed itself as the flag favourites, with a comprehensive 111-point drubbing of Chelsea. Forward Kane Hutchison and ruckman Ash Eames dominated for much of the game.
In other matches, Karingal had a 10-goal result over battlers Bonbeach, Pines had an easy day against Mornington, winning by 42 points, and Langwarrin made Edithvale-Aspendale look second rate with a 20-point win which should have been greater.
