Fatter stock, sales

THERE were good gains in most areas for the fat cattle market on Wednesday at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul.
Good heavy bullocks still attracted attention, with prices reaching to 195 cents. Sixty head were yarded and managed a rise of five cents to 181.3. Heifers eased slightly, with 49 offered, quality in this area was back and returned an average five cents lighter at 171.8, with good heifers making to 186.6.
Sixty four steers remained steady, with a top of 190.2 for a pen lot, the average was 182.2, less than one cent up, 197 veal yarded and again we saw good store types in the offering. This lifted the average seven cents to 206.8, processor veal also sold strongly, with good heavy vealers making to 241.6.
The bull and cow sale on Thursday saw 12 bulls sold and demand was strong, the top of 174 cents was followed closely by the average, which was nine cents better at 158.3.
Three hundred and seventy six cows followed recent trends to be steady to firm with a one cent rise on average to 139.7. Heavy cows reached 162.6, with over 20 per cent making over the 150 cent mark.
