ROC is set for change shock

RYTHDALE Officer Cardinia could switch to the Ellinbank league and change its name in a bid to save the struggling club.
An extraordinary meeting has been called for next month in a bid to revive interest in the perennial Casey Cardinia league strugglers.
President Martin Long said a move to the Ellinbank league was one option which would be explored by the club.
“We have put it out there and see what they reckon,” he said.
“We want people to get on board and get passionate about the club.”
Mr Long said he doubted the move to Ellinbank would go ahead, but without increased support from members and sponsors the club will be in dire straits.
“We’d like to stay in the best competition in the area, so we want people to jump on board rather than letting two or three people do all the work,” he said.
Other items on the agenda will be the possible amalgamation of the football and netball clubs as well as a name change from ROC to just Officer.
Passions are expected to be high, especially over the possibility of dropping Rythdale and Cardinia from the club name.
“A change of name is another talking point… I’m sure it is going to be a bit of a fiery meeting,” Mr Long said.
ROC finished eighth last year, with four wins and two draws. Its reserves side finished last. The club has failed to make the finals since joining the Casey Cardinia league in 2005 from the West Gippsland Latrobe league.
