Slog it out

NOW in its eighth year, ‘The Slog’ charity bike ride is preparing once again to raise a record amount of money for the 4Cs (Cardinia Combined Churches Caring) Crisis Relief Centre and Emergency Food Bank.
This year’s event will be held on 2 October.
More than 150 participants are expected to cycle the challenging 150km ride through the Strzelecki Ranges, or the more easygoing 70km route through Cardinia Shire’s flat lands.
Formerly known as ‘Slog To Sale’, the event has raised more $125,000 in the seven years it has been running.
‘The Slog’ event organiser, Scott Johnson, says that renaming the event was due to a decision to change the route from a one-way trek to Sale to two circuits starting and finishing in Pakenham.
“We have a major sponsor, Dial Before You Dig, who, along with Yarra Valley Cycles and Steamatic Gippsland, have come on board to be a part of this charitable event,” Mr Johnson said, “and if other businesses are interested in helping out and also supporting the 4Cs, we gladly want to hear from them.”
All money raised from the event goes to 4Cs, who provide food, financial relief and counselling services to struggling families in the Cardinia Shire.
