Cream of crop in public glare

THE MPNFL Casey-Cardinia night of nights unveiled the cream of the crop in front of a 200-strong crowd earlier this month at Cranbourne’s Amberlee Receptions. On top of the best and fairest awards for seven grades of netball, a team of the year was also announced along with awards to the three development squads and a senior tournament side.
Beaconsfield Under-17 A- Grade netballer, Kellie Holland, took out the best and fairest honours, winning with 24 votes from Fiona Smith (Keysborough) on 17 votes and Cranbourne’s Tara Cecil, who finished in third on 16 votes.
It was no surprise that seven of the 12 netballers named in the team of the year were from Beaconsfield (4) and Pakenham (3) as both teams had stellar seasons finishing first and second.
To calculate the team of the year, each A-grade coach filled out a nomination form and elected seven players with five interchange and all the votes were tallied to pick the league’s most valuable player (MVP) – Beaconsfield’s Jasmine Maddocks won this year’s MVP.
One of the highlights of the evening was Alanah Hardy’s score in the Under-13 best and fairest vote count. The Hampton Park netballer amassed 28 votes for the year and was the clear winner, with her nearest rival, Berwick’s Olivia Macente, sitting on 19 votes.
