RESIDENTS at the Pakenham Aged Care Millhaven Hostel won’t be the only ones enjoying themselves at their Family Day this Saturday.
The annual event promises to be a fun-filled day for every member of the family and will run from 10am till 2pm at the Princes Highway centre.
The young, and young at heart, will have more than enough to do on the day with an animal farm, face painting, Devonshire tea and a sausage sizzle, all for a gold coin donation.
Local singing duo, Peter and Robert, will also be performing a mix of golden oldies and newer songs that are sure to keep everyone happy.
But it’s the residents who will be the real stars of the day, with a craft stall selling their colourful knitted wares and an exhibition of their own artwork.
Pakenham Aged Care activities manager Tracey Van Roy said residents were looking forward to the event, which is being run in conjunction with National Seniors Week.
“We originally planned the day to be a low-key celebration and it’s just ballooned from there,” she said. “The residents are incredibly excited and have made some lovely stuff from blankets to bags, coat hangers to teddies. We’ll be selling them all on the day to raise money for the hostel.”
Businesses in the Cardinia community have also got behind the Family Day, donating big and small items for a silent auction, kids’ lucky dip and a raffle.
The first prize at the raffle will be a wheelbarrow full of garden supplies, while the second and third prizes are hampers.
