Hoof in for hook comp

THE Pakenham Show Society will hold its annual Hoof and Hook competition on 4 December at the Victorian Livestock Exchange, Pakenham.
Show president Gavan Bourke is inviting farmers from all over Gippsland to exhibit their best quality cattle for the event.
The competition begins at 6pm with dinner and also a complementary glass of wine. The judge Duncan Newcomen, from Yea, will begin the difficult job of judging at 7pm. There are three liveweight classes: 250 to 325 kilograms, 330 to 385 kilograms and 390 to 460 kilograms.
Prize money and sashes will be presented to the winners at approximately 8pm.
This is an excellent opportunity for farmers, commercial stud and hobby, to compare notes on the finer points of breeding quality cattle for prime tender steak.
The hook judging will be done at Radfords Abattoir, Skinners Road, Warragul, on Tuesday 7 December.
The carcasses can be viewed between 9am and 10am and resident MSA judge Paul Sheedy will be available to answer any questions and discuss the finer points on meat colour and fat cover to name just a few.
Mr Bourke would like to thank the Victorian Livestock Exchange for making such a wonderful venue available for the Pakenham Show to hold its Hoof and Hook competition.
Also many thanks must go to Robert Radford for the time and effort the abattoir takes in organising a special couple of hours for the wonderful carcass display in the boning room.
Please come and enjoy this special carcass competition provided by the Pakenham Show.
