Market faces up to strong bidding

IN A larger penning at VLE Pakenham, there was something for everyone, and everyone was bidding, including a face not seen for a while.
Generally, the yarding was of good to very good quality, and those that were not good quality sold mostly to restockers at inflated prices.
Demand was strong for most of the yarding, and prices were generally unchanged.
However, some of the prime bullocks were a little cheaper.
More vealers were penned with 500 light, medium and heavy weights sold.
Steady demand for most vealers saw a top price of 228 cents reached with most B muscle vealers between 205 cents and 220 cents per kilogram.
Other vealers made from 185 cents to 225 cents per kilogram with lightweight vealers making the higher prices here.
There were 585 yearlings penned, including 265 steers of varying weights but all sold well with some averages up to five cents per kilogram higher.
Most made between 175 cents and 195 cents with some to 208 cents per kilogram.
Prices were helped by strong feedlot competition with C muscle steers from 182 cents to 205 cents per kilogram.
Heifers again sold very well with most making between 168 cents and 206 cents per kilogram. Supplementary fed cattle made to a top of 219 cents per kilogram.
Grown cattle made up the balance of the yarding with 170 steers penned.
The better quality prime C3 and C4 bullocks made from 172 cents to 182 cents, while manufacturing grades were from 152 cents to 174 cents per kilogram.
There were 95 heifers sold from 138 cents to 170 cents per kilogram. The VLE Draw for the week commencing Monday 22 November is as follows: 1, Elders; 2, Landmark; 3, SEJ; 4, Alex Scott; 5, Everitt and Seeley; 6, Nathan Gibbon; 7, Rodwell; 8, Mick Hornsby.
