St John of God auxiliary delivers

St John of God Hospital Berwick Auxiliary members held their last fundraiser for the year with a luncheon at Clover Cottage.
Auxiliary president Carolyn Smith welcomed guests and acknowledged the work of the members.
Hospital chief executive officer Lisa Norman and director of mission Ruth Sharkie were special guests on the day.
Ruth started the luncheon saying grace in thanks for good health, good food and good friends. Lisa spoke on the update of the hospital including the development and expansion. She also spoke on the number of babies being born and the number of surgical operations being performed at the hospital during the year.
Members of the auxiliary were delighted to be able to donate fundraising money to the hospital this year to purchase a birthing simulator for training purposes.
The birthing simulator is a mannequin with a life-sized torso and comes complete with a life-like baby that it can ‘deliver’.
In addition to training for complicated deliveries this birthing simulator also simulates normal delivery.
The auxiliary has had a busy and worthwhile year fundraising for the hospital.
The first meeting for 2011 will be on Monday 14 February at Stephenson House, Gibb Street, Berwick, starting at noon with lunch.
New members are most welcome. Any inquiries to Anne Crockett 9707 3425.
