OBITUARY

WAYNE HUMPHREY

BERWICK identity Wayne “Bluey” Humphrey will be remembered for his love for a beer and a bet by all who knew him.
Aged 48, Mr Humphrey passed away suddenly after a heart attack at the Dandenong Hospital.
His sudden death sent a shock through the town and Berwick and Beaconsfield sporting clubs last week.
Friend Brad Kingsbury said he couldn’t believe it when he heard the news.
“I said, that can’t be right, I just spoke to him on the weekend and he was giving me a few tips for the races,” he said.
“He was on a roll that day, too.
“He used to go through his phone book in his phone and share all his tips.”
Mr Kingsbury said Mr Humphrey was well known for his winning tips.
“He had a horse recently called Bigalow and it won at the spring carnival and he tipped it on Emirates Day,” he said.
“It won and he texted me afterwards saying ‘ring a ding ding’.”
Tributes for the likeable character flowed as news of his passing spread.
His good mate Kris Fletcher spoke to the Gazette on Monday.
“I’ve known him since I was a baby,” Mr Fletcher said. “His mother’s cousin was my godmother’s mother.
“So we were pretty close, he had quite the extended family.”
Mr Fletcher said Mr Humphrey would be remembered as someone who was here for a good time.
“He was a good bloke,” he said. “He never said no to a drink or to hanging out with his mates.”
Mr Humphrey was the brother and uncle of Bill, Fred, Jennifer and their families.
