Improved quality sees better return

AT BAW BAW Livestock Exchange, Warragul, there was a better return for vendors with improved quality among the penning of 417 head.
Weights were similar to last sale and again very few stores were penned.
Processors had a clear run and took full advantage of the available head.
Less bullocks did manage to sell easier, slipping four cents to 167.5 cents and made to 180 cents.
Forty five good solid heifers rose 10 cents to 172.8 cents for a top of 205 cents while 100 steers lifted 12 cents to 180.21 cents and also managed to reach the 200 cent mark also topping at 205 cents.
Two hundred and nineteen vealers made a good forward step and rose 10 cents to 199.3. Very good quality saw the top reach 230 cents this sale.
On Thursday bulls and cows remained steady in value even with a lighter quality among the pens.
Twenty two bulls averaged 158 cents and reached a top of 185 cents, seven cents up on last week.
Nineteen bullocks averaged 168.9 cents and made to 170 cents, and 385 cows lifted their top by eight cents to 170 cents but lighter cows eased which slipped the average back 1.5 cents to 140 cents.
