LEGACY South East is officially getting back into action.
Ten ladies, along with co-ordinator Barry McMahon and Bill Rogers of Dandenong, turned up to the meeting at the Pakenham RSL to discuss the relaunch of a group in Pakenham.
Legacy, which is service that cares for families of deceased veterans, started in 1923 and now cares for over 100,000 widows and over 300 children.
Mr McMahon said a group was running a few years ago, but stopped when the organiser passed away.
“The ladies drifted away so I thought I’d call them back and reform a group,” Mr McMahon said.
The war widows and legacy ladies will have a social club, where new information such as legacy entitlements, health care and transport can also be addressed.
Mr Rogers said they still care and look after widows and dependents to this day.
“One of the main issues is a lot of widows are getting older so health and transport requirements are more important,” Mr Rogers said.
Mr McMahon hopes relaunching the Legacy group will bring widows together to find out how they are doing and be able to give everyone a helping hand.
There will be a meeting over lunch on 16 December at the Pakenham Sports Club, starting at noon, for all who are interested.
