Mayoral interest

ALLEGEDLY a pecuniary interest has been dissolved along with a conflict of interest for a councillor in the Central Ward of the Shire of Cardinia.
The 2010 Victorian Government Local Government document – Conflict of Interest in Local Government (copy obtainable at www.localgovernment.vic.gov.au or at the Cardinia Shire Council office or 9651 7026) seemingly has rewarded a first term councillor in his quest to be elected to the mayoral position and to wear the mayoral robe.
Surely, the integrity of the mayoral position must be maintained at all times and no previous election declaration should be brought into any conversation inside or outside of council.
Councillors with pecuniary interests must serve their four year full term before nominating for the mayoral position.
Best intentions are not always the right intentions in the eyes of all ratepayers.
