New blood for Kooweerup

By Melissa Meehan
AFTER 12 years at the helm of the Kooweerup Township Committee, president Ray Brown has stepped aside, making way for new president Frank Crameri.
Mr Brown did not nominate for chairman, but was installed as vice-president of the group.
At the annual general meeting, held this month, Mr Brown said he would not be nominating for election as chairman, as it was his 12th year and he felt that new leadership was well overdue.
“There is so much to do if we want our town to prosper and remain a good place to live,” Mr Brown said.
“I believe that a strong responsible town committee is the best avenue in achieving good outcomes.”
Other members of the committee include Geoff Stokes (secretary), Ellen Brown, Gwen Lengersdorf, Joyce Light, Jack Nunn, Caroline Roff, Peter Stevens and Frank Worcester.
Before stepping down from his role as president, Mr Brown gave his final president’s report.
He said attendances at meetings had been consistent in the past year, but believed some members of the community were reluctant to attend unless they had an agenda.
“This committee is recognised by the shire, State Government and private bodies as the group that best represents the interests of the Kooweerup community,” Mr Brown said.
“Members of the community and clubs must be more actively encouraged to attend the meetings.”
He praised members of the committee for lobbying for a town bypass, and said time would tell whether the current solution, offered by VicRoads, was successful.
