All up for athletics

FOUR local athletes competed against more than 1000 athletes in the Australian All School Athletics Championships held at Doncaster over the weekend.
Karlee Bailey (Pakenham), Phil Backman (Kooweerup), Danielle Cameron (Beaconsfield) and Siobhan Jagusch (Beaconsfield) took to their chosen field against some of the best athletes – in their age group – across Australia.
Pakenham’s Karlee Bailey came fifth in the under-14 100m sprint and Phil Backman from Kooweerup ran in sixth place in the under-16 100m sprint.
Beaconsfield’s Danielle Cameron came fifth in the under-16 high jump (1.65m) and Siobhan Jagusch – also from Beaconsfield – finished the 2km under-18 steeplechase in sixth place.
New South Wales took home the inaugural championship cup (762) following the introduction of a new points system this year. Victoria finished in second place (717) while Queensland (624) came third.
