PAKENHAM Veterinary Clinic’s kitten adoption program is gearing up for another season of cute kittens.
But with more strays entering the program every day, veterinary nurse Charmaine Douglas is urging cat lovers to consider some of the older kittens currently at the clinic, before it is too late.
“We really have a limit of eight here at the clinic, otherwise we have to take them to the council or a shelter where the outcome isn’t always as good,” Ms Douglas said. “The more we sell the more we can take in.”
Ms Douglas also said current cat owners must desex and microchip their cats to stop the increasing numbers of strays.
“Desex your cats and we won’t have these poor kittens wandering around.
“Some people move home and then leave their cat behind or a cat will also try to return to its old home after a family moves.
“Microchipping helps those cats be returned to their owners,” she said. Ms Douglas urged pet owners to take responsibility for their pets now.
“Usually the season starts in October, but its only really starting now, so it has really just begun.”
Kittens for sale at the Pakenham Veterinary Clinic through its adoption program are desexed, microchipped and up to date with all of their vaccines and parasite control.
The kittens cost $167 – a heavily discounted price and the clinic does not make a profit from the sale.
