Let the sun shine in

CENTENARY celebrations are rare, but when they occur it gives groups and individuals the opportunity to be involved and to say thankyou to those people who have helped to achieve that milestone.
One of this district’s oldest community groups – the Pakenham and District Agricultural and Horticultural Society – will celebrate its centenary next year.
Over the years the Pakenham Show has built up a wonderful reputation as one of Cardinia Shire’s biggest family outing events.
It showcases the district’s finest animals and produce, as well as presenting entertainment at the highest level.
The centenary show at Pakenham Racecourse on Saturday 19 March 2011 promises to be far better than any previous show.
The centenary committee has been working for some time on the special activities for the day and is particularly keen to involve as many local schools and community groups as possible.
One special feature of the show will be the display of bright yellow sunflowers.
Sunflower seeds have been dispersed throughout the Cardinia Shire to highlight how significant the centenary show will be.
Seeds have been given to Bayles Primary, Chairo Christian College, St Patrick’s Primary, Cardinia Primary, Kooweerup Primary, Pakenham Consolidated, Nar Nar Goon Primary, St James, Nar Nar Goon, Pakenham Lakeside, Pakenham Hills Primary, Officer Primary, Heritage College, St John’s Primary, Kooweerup, Pakenham Inner Wheel Club, Pakenham Rotary Club, Killara Hostel-Nursing Home, Kooweerup and local community people wanting to spread the word in the area.
