LANG LANG

WHAT an incredible weekend for the ‘Swamp Tigers’, with Nic Beale getting a century plus in Sub District, Ross Douglas and Shaun Hogg getting half centuries plus and a five wicket haul from Wally Brenner in E grade.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:sUB-dISTRICT

Playing Gembrook away, Lang Lang won the toss and elected to bat. Gareth Andrews and Ross Douglas opened the batting and put on 48, their partnership ending when Andrews was lbw for 10. Jim Van Dum joined Douglas and these two put on 60 for the second wicket in attacking fashion.
Van Dum was out for 32, and three runs later Douglas was caught after making 63 in an innings that included eight boundaries. Veteran captain Rogan Fraser was joined by Bruno McCurdy and a 64 run stand ensued. It was ended when McCurdy was clean bowled for 25. With no addition to the score, Fraser was caught after making 40.
Exciting all rounder Aaron Creasey was joined at the crease by Nic Beale and these two put on 99 for the sixth wicket in only 24 overs. It was ended when Creasey was stumped after making 36.
Veteran wicket keeper Shaun Hogg joined Beale and the batsmen were intent in pushing the scoring along quickly. Both were in an attacking mood, with Hogg somehow managing to snare most of the strike. Beale hit a beautiful cover drive to bring up his maiden century for Lang Lang, and not long after Hogg reached his half century with a pull shot that sped to the boundary.
These two put on an unbeaten 140 run partnership for the seventh wicket (a club record) in only 19 overs, to have Lang Lang at 7/415 off their allotted 80 overs. This will hopefully be a winning score, but it was good to see the ‘Swamp Tigers’ bat out their overs with the finals approaching.

Playing fellow final aspirants Devon Meadows, this is a must win game. The opposition batted first. Wally Brenner had a perfect day with the ball, taking 5/12 off 17 overs, in a brilliant exhibition of swing bowling.
Rick Caddell, with three wickets, and Peter Kelly, with two, kept the pressure on, with Devon Meadows all out for 63. The club’s best spin bowler, Richard Adderley, bowled nine overs for 18 runs in an amazing display.
At stumps Lang Lang are 2/11, and it is hoped they can gain an important first innings win.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:UNDER 17

Lang Lang dismissed Beaconsfield for 93 with Jackson Walker-Hassett and Josh Bethune getting two wickets, and one apiece to Nic Virtue, Mark Yanz, Tom Brickwood and Tyson Thomas.
With 40 overs to bat next week, it is hoped the young ‘Swamp Tigers’ can gain their first win of the season.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:UNDER 13 BLUE

At the end of their 40 overs, Lang Lang Blue were 8/43 in a good team effort with Eden Shepherd top scoring with 10. It was most pleasing to see the team bat out all their overs. Hopefully, they will bowl well next week.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:UNDER 13 WHITE

Lang Lang White made 6/155 against Clyde with Jackson Tribuzi 34 retired, Tom Dwyer 31 retired and Bill Antoniou 28 not out being the top scorers. This is a must win game for Lang Lang.

PREMIER grade is locked in a tight game with Catani, being 6/58 chasing Catani’s 85 all out. Officer bowled superbly with the wickets being shared around. Adam Reid with 2/11 from eight overs was one of the pick of the bowlers, with Andrew Tucker 2/7 from eight overs and Oliver Brown 1/12 from 11.3 overs doing a great job with the new ball.
Brett Reid 2/19 and Kable Dowsett 2/22 also contributed and Shane White with 1/11 was the other wicket taker with Steve McIntyre taking two catches. Officer then were 4/18 in the run chase before Shane White with 29 not out and Oliver Brown 9 steadied the side. Officer will be looking to bat sensibly to ensure they pass Catani’s score this weekend.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:c gRADE

C Grade again bowled and fielded well but let themselves down with the bat. Bowling out Pakenham Upper/Toomuc for 115 was a good performance. Tom Marks 3/25 and James Quinn 3/22 both bowled great spells and Toyosi Solanke also beat the bat in his first C Grade game.
Brent Pullen 2/16 and Tony Whitham 0/5 off five overs both tied up the runs and Tony and Tom Marks combined for a good run out. Braydon McHugh, Tony Whitham and Luke Johnson all took good catches. Officer was 7/37 at stumps and will need to improve to win the game this Saturday.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:e gRADE

E Grade fielded all day on a fast ground and is chasing a reachable 234 against Merinda Park. For Officer, Jessie Longmuir bowled determinedly as did Chris Day with the new ball and Russell Carruthers bowled a great spell for three wickets including dismissing Merinda Park’s top scorer. @BT Sub Sport Gaz:
dISTRICT

AFTER a disappointing result last week, it was important to get back to basics. Winning the toss and electing to bat, helped the situation.
Morrison and Morris strode out to take to the attack. Taking 12 off the first over really put the Morrisons mark on the game. After both settling, Morrison fell for 22 after mistiming a pull shot. Morris fell soon after, being bowled by a cutter.
Ferguson and Gavin Hackett knuckled down and set about building the innings. Ferguson was ticking the runs over and Hackett was finally getting some results from his good form over the past few weeks. Together they saw out 30 overs and built a foundation for everyone else to work off. Ferguson passed his 50, only to play a loose shot and be bowled for 51. Fairbank came out and looked to push on with the run rate, playing a good mixture of aggression and finesse. At tea, the score was 3/141 off 47 overs.
Hackett was the first to fall after the break, for a fantastic 29. Really he was the rock of the innings seeing out the tough overs. Brenton Hackett came in and looked in good touch until a mix-up with Fairbank saw him run out for 10. The same fate hit Hendry, who tried to take a single when there was no chance of one. He was run out for one. Gilliatte and Fairbank joined up and worked the ball all over the oval, pushing the run rate up, taking the score to 6/217.
Fairbank then played one big shot too many, being caught in the deep for a superb 78. Gilliatte and Pattison continued finding gaps while not going overboard with their aggression. Gilliatte smashed his way to 50 and Pattison had worked up to a handy 20. Pattison fell in the last over and Tagliaferro did the right thing and push a single, leaving Rory to face the last three balls. The last three balls went four, four, and a massive Tommy to finish the innings off. A fantastic effort for the boys seeing the score go to 8/306 off the allotted 80 overs. Rory finished on 67 not out, playing the perfect team role.

Nyora were asked by Devon Meadows to bat after losing the toss. We started disastrously, being 3-18 and also lost S Vella, who was off to the hospital when a top edge flew into and cut his eyebrow. M van Weel came in for a quickfire 29, followed by a solid partnership of 62 between A Oswald (44) and M Strybosch pushed the score over 100. Then there was a last wicket unbroken stand of 42, M Strybosch finishing on 49 not out and G Loone 4 not out took the total to 163.
Devon Meadows wasted no time and were scoring at 10 an over and justified their top spot by cruising past Nyora’s total in 17 overs with the loss of five wickets . J Strybosch 2-24 and N Vistarini 2-39 were the pick of the bowlers.
A bigger total next week against the same team should prove to be a better result.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:
TURF 1

BERWICK chose to bat in their meeting with top of the table Buckley Ridges in an important game for the firsts. They fought their way to 21, where they lost two quick wickets. Davies (11) came to the crease and put on some quick runs, but fell with the score at 3/38. Opening batsman Col Tucker and Paul Evans scored freely until Tucker was trapped in front for a well made 44. Evans fell a few overs later for 36, with the Bears in a tricky position at 5/109. This quickly became 7/124 with Ryan Crawford looking solid. Matt Crosby (20) joined Crawford at the crease and the pair batted sensibly for around 20 overs, pushing the score to 173, with the last two wickets falling quickly. Berwick finished with 176 with Ryan Crawford the not out batsman on 37.
Berwick had 16 overs to bowl at the opposition and it didn’t take long for Davies to pick up a wicket. Tearaway quick Goodes continued his fine bowling form, taking the second wicket and leaving Buckley at 2/27 going into next week.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:TURF 3

The second XI had an important game, playing first on the ladder North Dandenong for a spot in the finals. Despite dropping some early chances, Brett Davis (1/39), picked up the first wicket with the score on 12. It took the introduction of Williamson to start the fall of wickets. The young man finished with figures of 3/31, bowling a tight line and length. Dalzotto (3/33) was introduced into the attack with immediate results, as he continued the steady flow of wickets. Aidan Mills (1/24) and Carl Sutton (1/21) were the other wicket takers as North Dandenong slumped to 9/102. The Bears struggled to take the last wicket, with the 10th wicket putting on 76 to bring the total to a respectable 178. Berwick had three overs to see out the day, however, they lost a wicket and will resume at 1/8 with a lot of work to do next week.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:A GRADE

The top of the table third XI also had a tough game against Buckley Ridges, who sit third on the ladder. Buckley chose to bat and Berwick kept things tight with Barnard and Quinlan doing what they do best. It was again Barnard who did the damage, picking up the first four wickets and having the opposition 4/65. Wickets fell continually, thanks to Tolley (1/24), McGeachin and his gentle offies (2/36) and Eli Hayes picking up 2/17 off his three overs. However, due to some lower order hitting, Buckley managed to post 164.
Berwick had 11 overs to see off, but lost their captain halfway through. McGeachin and Waters held firm, leaving the boys at 1/25 overnight.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:B GRADE

Yet another huge game. This time the fourth XI, who are sitting fourth, played fifth placed St Brigids for a spot in the top four. New Bear, Chris Broadbent, bowled superbly and took 2/18 off 16 overs. Craig Chaman (1/30) and Brett Gilbert (1/9) took the second and third wickets respectively, however, St Brigids got to 3/108. Josh Sauze (3/15) and Jake Campbell (3/58) turned the fortunes of the Berwick side as the last seven wickets fell for 64 with St Brigids finishing with 172.
Berwick suffered an early loss in their run chase, with nightwatchman Renwick being dismissed without troubling the scorers. They ended the day at 1/12.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:E GRADE

The fifth X1 continued the run of important games for the club, coming up against Lyndale, who they shared third spot with coming into the round. The opposition won the toss and batted, however, they may have regretted the decision with Ananta picking up an early wicket. Hayden Belleville, (2/25), chimed in with a couple of his own and the score was 3/35. Elder statesman Henry (1/24) and Robinson (2/37) took middle order wickets to slow the opposition, but it was the re-introduction of Ananta which put an end to the Lyndale innings. With an accurate spell, he cleaned up the last four wickets and finished with the figures of 5/25 as the opposition was all out for 149.
Berwick had their chance to eat into the score with 21 overs left in the day. Unfortunately, they lost a couple of wickets in the process and will resume at 2/27 next week.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:ONE DAY

The one-day side looked to continue their streak of wins against Lynbrook. Stuart Bryen continued his good form with the ball, picking up 3/24 off his allotted overs. Bhutiani was handy with the ball, as he netted 1/47 off his eight overs. Grimson came on as the first change bowler and picked up three wickets, leaving Lynbrook at 7/110. A strong eighth wicket stand got Lynbrook to a very competitive 187 off their 36 overs.
Berwick started their massive run chase well, with Tate (26) and Cooper (25) pushed for quick runs. Bryen continued his form with the bat, falling first ball. The wickets were falling all too quickly for the Bears. Al Bartlett provided some middle order resistance with a well made 20, however, no other batsman reached single figures and Berwick were bowled out in just under 24 overs for 98. A disappointing result.
