Koowee, says Woolies

FINAL touches are being made at the Kooweerup Woolworths supermarket complex in Station Street.
The opening date of the shopping precinct is mid-October.
On Monday, Woolworths Ltd took over the site to begin the fit-out.
Head of construction, Barry Baker, said that there was some superficial work to be done but the store had a little over a month until it would be open.
“There’s about five weeks to go,” he said.
Wet weather disrupted construction at the Station Street supermarket earlier this year.
The shopping complex will be home to a number of shops, including a Pie Minister.
Kel Dalziel from Kooweerup Optical welcomed the new addition to the township.
“It’s a great thing to be updated in town. The number of jobs it will bring too is impressive,” he said.
Construction at the site has caused some confusion among residents, who questioned when the supermarket would be open on the Pakenham-Berwick Gazette Facebook page.
“When is the shopping centre supposed to open in Kooweerup? Is it just Woolies or are there other shops as well?” Heather Anne Daws asked.
Mr Baker said that the Woolworths supermarket was expected to be open on October 10 or 12, depending on construction of the neighbouring shops.
Shelves and fridges are expected to be put in this week.
“It’s nearly all finished. Internally it’s done,” he said.
The Woolworths site has a large office space and staff area.
While some residents have complained that the store from the outside looks like it has lagged, the construction workers were putting final touches on the deli, fridges and cool room out the back to be ready for the October opening.
“It looks like it’s behind but once they put the signs up it will look a bit better,” he said.
