Sam Newman was a welcome visitor to Pakenham on Tuesday.
Eager shoppers gathered along Main Street as The Footy Show larrikin walked up and down interviewing people for his Street Talk segment.
Dressed as Abraham Lincoln, Sam engaged the locals in a discussion on the AFL’s recent performance-enhancing drug scandal.
Lakeside resident Jarrah Bevilacqua from Century 21 real-estate could barely contain her excitement after getting on the camera with Sam.
“I love him, I’m a cats’ supporter,” she laughed.
“It was so much fun – I’ve always wanted to do it.
“I was driving in and I saw him from the corner and I ran across the car park to see him.”
Phillip Courtis, also from Pakenham, had been sitting in a nearby café having lunch when he got word that Sam was strolling down Main Street.
He was in a slight state of shock following his interview with him.
“It was very different to what I expected,” Phillip said.
“I was in the shop and someone said I should bring Sam Newman down here!”
Just like Jarrah, Phillip excitedly ran down the street to say hi to Sam.
“He’s such a funny guy,” he said.
“He makes The Footy Show.”
There were several other locals that tried to get a piece of Sam.
Hayley Conn, event manager at the Pakenham Racing Club, stopped to have a chat and encouraged Sam to get along to the Pakenham Cup races on Sunday 24 March.
Meanwhile, Sam got more than he bargained for when he bumped into Terry Baldwin from the discount store.
Terry sprinted at Sam from down the street, stopping just in front of him to have a chat.
Street Talk from Pakenham will air on The Footy Show this Thursday night at the new time of 8.30pm.
