IT MAY not have been unusual to hear an ’argh’ or ’me hearties’ from Haileybury’s Berwick campus during the last few weeks.
The school’s middle school students have been rehearsing for their production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s classic musical Pirates of Penzance.
All their hard work will pay off this week with the three scheduled performances.
Play director and producer Tessa Kerekes said it had been a great process since rehearsals started in April.
“It has been thrilling watching our magnificent pirate ship evolve on stage, truly setting the scene for us as we bring to life an old story of swash-bucking pirates, beautiful maidens and bumbling police,” she said.
The 80 students have been busy taking weekly singing, choreography and acting sessions.
The production team have worked together with the talented ensemble to produce a fabulously engaging play, sure to entertain avid theatre-goers and family alike.
Pirate of Penzance Junior will be held at John Twist Hall at Haileybury Berwick on Wednesday 14 August at 10am and Friday 15 and Saturday 16 August at 7pm. For more information, contact the school on 8768 2300.
