Show draws in artists

Rotary’s Art Gippsland has been the district’s premier annual art event for more than 40 years.
Art Gippsland 2013 will be held at the West Gippsland Arts Centre in Warragul from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 October.
Opening times are 10am each day and closing at 8.30pm on Friday and 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
This year Art Gippsland will showcase Gippsland artists as well as artists from Melbourne and further afield.
Many kinds of exhibits will be eligible to earn their creator recognition as well as sales and even prize money.
More than 200 exhibits are expected with prizes in nine categories covering two-dimensionial and three-dimensional artworks including water, oil, acrylic and pastel paintings, works on paper, holography, ceramics, glass, sculpture and textile works.
A People’s Choice prize will also be available this year to the artist whose works prove the most popular with visitors.
A special feature this year will be the Marilyn Dawson Encouragement Prize for the best artist under 18 years old.
The prize will cover all art mediums.
Artist Peter Biram will judge this year’s event.
As a landscape painter Peter’s work deals with people’s relationship to the land.
Living in the Dandenong Ranges Peter also teaches art on a part-time basis.
The Preview Night is on Thursday 17 October commencing at 6.30pm.
The category winners will be announced and sales to the public commence. Tickets for the evening are $25 per head and include drinks and finger food. Tickets are available from Sally J Real Estate and the West Gippsland Arts Centre box office or at the door on the night.
General admission to the art show for adults is $5.
All art works on display will be available for purchase by the general public.
A large percentage of paintings sales go to the individual artist.
Surplus funds from Art Gippsland are used by the Rotary Club of Warragul to support community projects in Warragul and surround areas.
