THE Gippsland Storm Elite Netball Club helped host the Victorian Netball League (VNL) Monash Central tryouts recently at Cardinia Life.
Monash Central president Shane O’Sullivan said he was very impressed with the attendance, particularly in the under-19 age group for next year’s VNL season.
The tryouts are part of the ongoing joint-venture between the Gippsland Storm and Monash Central.
The Storm is now gearing up for its own tryouts for season 2014, held over two weeks – 21 and 28 October – at Cardinia Life.
Storm president Brendan Murnane was thrilled with some of his players making the Monash 19-and-under squad. He said he was also very happy with the Storm’s season so far, with many of the club’s junior squads making the finals and the Storm seniors winning their final in the Autumn season at Waverley. With ongoing development, many of the existing squads will also go on to make the Spring finals as well.
When interviewed, former president – and founder of Gippsland Storm – Mike Spain talked about the enormous success the club had experienced since its foundation back in 1998, with so many players now playing in the VNL.
He also discussed the number of Storm players who have gone on to represent Victoria in both junior and senior squads. Adelaide Thunderbird and Australian Diamond Renae Hallinan is just one of the players to have gone through the Storm’s development ranks.
The Gippsland Storm committee has extended an open invitation for all players in the Gippsland and eastern metro region to come along to Storm tryouts in an effort to take that next step in their netball development. Pre- registration is encouraged.
