Learning on the run

ACTIVITIES and exercise were enjoyed by Berwick kindergarten children last week as part of their partnership with Berwick Secondary College through the NAB Schools First Partnership.
On 18 October, 120 children from Edrington Park Childcare Centre and Kindergarten participated in the Adidas Schools Fun Run, assisted by Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) students from Berwick Secondary College.
“I loved running around the track and giving the big school children a high five,” five-year-old Logan said.
The 15 VCAL students helped with the set-up of the event, walking the excited children over to the Bryn Mawr Reserve on the slightly chilly day. Year 12 student Adam said plenty of planning made the day a great success.
“Getting the children safely across the road was a big job but seeing their happy faces, all dressed in their team colours, made all the work worthwhile,” he said.
The students also organised catering and entertainment in the forms of face painting, tug of war, tunnel ball and ball games.
“I got my face painted like a fairy princess and I was the winner,” two-year-old Taya said.
The NAB Schools First Partnership aims to provide opportunities for high school students to complete structured workplace learning, broadening their post-school education and employment prospects, while connecting and contributing to their community.
