Stars descend on Casey

Project ambassador and comedian, Ben Price will host the announcement event.

THE STARS are coming to Casey this week for a big announcement.
ARIA award-winning singer Guy Sebastian and comedian Ben Price will attend an event on Friday to announce the winning design for the $125 million Casey Cultural Precinct in Narre Warren.
City of Casey Mayor Geoff Ablett said he was looking forward to the event.
“A tremendous amount of work has been done in the last six months to ensure the Casey Cultural Precinct will meet the needs and aspirations of the community and delivers upon the vision to be an inviting central heart for the community that celebrates participation, belonging and civic pride,” he said.
“So, come along on 10 January to find out which team will design the precinct, view the winning design and be entertained by both Guy Sebastian and Ben Price.
“Four architectural design teams– Lyons and Ashton Raggatt McDougall (ARM); Denton Corker Marshall; Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp and John Wardle Architects — have developed concept designs for the precinct.
Guy Sebastian said he was excited to attend the event and support the performance precinct.
“As an Australian singer and songwriter, and someone with loads of relatives living in the area, I’m really happy to be supporting the $125 million Casey Cultural Precinct,” he said.
“Given my lifelong passion for music and performing, I think people in the region are really fortunate as I would have loved to have had something like this in my neighbourhood growing up.”
The $125 million Casey Cultural Precinct will comprise an 800-seat regional theatre, multi-purpose exhibition space, regional art gallery, new community library, community meeting rooms, civic centre and community plaza.
Project ambassador and comedian, Ben Price, has also portrayed Sean Connery, Homer Simpson, Tom Cruise and a host of other celebrities in a video which shows them commenting about the City of Casey’s future community, cultural and civic precinct.
“The Casey Cultural Precinct will be a progressive, innovative and futuristic precinct which harnesses emerging technologies and digital art forms,” Cr Ablett said.
“To start building on this digital element and in recognition that an increasing number of people prefer to access information online, council has developed a website for the project and will post regular videos to share updates and key milestones with the community.”
The Casey Cultural Precinct is expected to open to the community mid-2017.

The announcement will take place at 1pm on Friday 10 January outside the City of Casey Civic Centre, Magid Drive, Narre Warren.
