THE Pakenham Show will be embracing the changing face of the community, while maintaining a strong focus with its historical and agricultural roots.
This year’s show will also be promoting the increasing importance of tourism in the region and in recognising the diverse community, the show committee is putting out a welcoming hand to the region’s increasing multicultural profile.
The show is welcoming The Living Learning Centre and Casey Cardinia Tourism to this year’s event.
Pakenham Show’s president Geoff Young said the committee welcomed the new supporters.
“We are delighted to have these groups on board to highlight how diverse our multicultural community has become and the wonderful local produce and tourist attractions we have at our backdoor,” he said.
Mr Young said the change of venue marked an exciting new chapter for Victoria’s top country show, which was for many years held at the Pakenham Racecourse.
“Come and join us in a celebration of our land, our home, the economy and our community,” he said.
“Come and see the science of primary production, the source of food, the quality of animals and the skill of our farmers, jam and cake makers, school artworks – which this year has an outer space theme.
“There is also photography and artists as well as, in the pavilion, an aged care section for the very first time.”
All the regular attractions will be there on the day including dog high jump, the Cardinia Civic Concert Band, gumboot throwing, paper plane flying, ferret racing, Jumbo Animal Farm, Reptile Encounters, junior show personality competitions, vintage cars and machinery, the popular giant pumpkin and vegetable competition and the Wally Wombat Trail.
A bonus to this year’s show will be a cash prize of $10,000 put up by Atlantic Seeds for a New World Record Grown Pumpkin here in Australia and must be weighed in at the Pakenham Show.
