BERWICK firefighters were honoured for their outstanding work at a special event last week.
On 28 June, the Berwick CFA held its annual brigade dinner at the Berwick Bowling Club.
Members were recognised for their service and enjoyed a talk by guest speaker Tristan Miller.
Tristan completed 52 marathons around the world in 52 weeks, and wrote about the highs and lows of his epic journey in his book ‘Run Like Crazy.’
Berwick CFA Captain Alan Boyd said Tristan’s had offered some good advice to the members based on his personal experiences.
“Tristan’s story was unbelievable,” Capt Boyd said.
“Most marathon runners run a marathon then take a month to recover, but he just kept going. He spoke about setting goals in life and breaking things down into smaller chunks, so you only take one bite at a time.”
Capt Boyd said the annual event was a great opportunity to celebrate and recognise the contribution made by the brigade members, the community and the CFA.
It was also attended by Gembrook MP Brad Battin, City of Casey mayor Geoff Ablett and his wife Job, CFA board members Paul Denham and Operations Officer Greg Christison.
National medals went to Mitch Buxton, Steve Ewing, Richard Fearn, Anthony Jones, Ian McGregor, James Sutherland and Paul Webster. National Medal and first clasps went to David Winship, Nigel Holmes and Mike Jones. National Medal first and second clasps went to Alan Boyd and Ken Fritzlaff. The CFA 5 Year Certificate went to Celia A’vard, Tess Murphy, Harley Pockett and Steve Wren. The CFA 15 Year Clasp went to Ian McGregor.
