KOOWEERUP’S iconic doughnut van was burnt beyond repair in a blaze which broke out earlier this week.
At about 2pm on Monday, Kooweerup CFA were called out to fight the fire which completely gutted the well-loved fast food van located underneath the swamp observation tower along the South Gippsland Highway.
A Kooweerup CFA lieutenant suspects the inferno, which took about 20 minutes to extinguish with the help of the Lang Lang CFA, started in the kitchen area.
“We don’t know the cause. My guess is that it had something to do with the cooking equipment,” the lieutenant said.
He praised the doughnut van owner whose quick thinking helped prevent a much larger blaze.
“He removed two gas bottles from the van, which potentially stopped it from become a much more dangerous incident.”
