Dried out market

There were approximately 1500 export and 1900 young cattle penned at VLE Pakenham, representing a decrease of 200 head week-on-week.
There was a full field of buyers present and operating, not all fully, in a cheaper market.
Quality was plainer than the previous sale with a larger proportion of the offering being of undesirable cross breeding and more cattle showing the effects of the drying summer.
The good soft vealers suited to butcher orders eased three cents to four cents per kilogram.
Yearling trade steers and heifers sold firm for the medium weights and three cents to five cents easier for the heavy weights over 400 kilograms.
Feeder steers and heifers sold firm for most.
Grown steers and bullocks eased four cents to six cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight grown heifers showing good finish sold firm.
Heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers held firm while the crossbred portion slipped eight cents per kilogram.
The vealers sold mostly from 210 cents to 245 cents per kilogram.
Yearling trade steers made between 217 cents and 253 cents per kilogram.
Yearling heifers suited to the trade sold between 197 cents and 240 cents per kilogram.
Feeder steers made from 198 cents to 226 cents with the heifer portion from 186 cents to 217 cents per kilogram.
Grown steers sold from 208 cents to 232 cents per kilograms. Bullocks made between 202 cents and 238 cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight bullocks sold between 195 cents and 217 cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight grown heifers showing good finish made from 198 cents to 224 cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers sold from 194 cents to 199 cents with the crossbred portion from 190 cents to 214 cents per kilogram.
