Heads up for improved prices

IT WAS a very similar yarding at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, in comparison to the previous Fat Sale with 980 head yarded.
The heifer category contained an improved selection of higher quality head and this resulted in a lift in the average price of three cents.
Bullocks were plainer in some pens and with larger numbers across the state they eased on average with the top still managing to attract better prices.
Steers were firm to slightly easier in the secondary pens with the top pens attracting better prices, but managed to ease on average.
Veal remained steady, although the top was marginally back easing the average.
The yard average was four cents easier at 205.3 cents.
The 102 bullocks made to 236 cents, up five cents, and averaged 194.8 cents, back 12 cents; 95 heifers made to 248 cents, up 28 cents, and averaged 184.2 cents, up three cents; 137 steers made to 241.6 cents, up five cents, and averaged 194.3 cents, back four cents and 634 veal made to 267.2 cents, back three cents, and averaged 215.7 cents, back three cents.
On Thursday the Bull and Cow Sale was slightly smaller in numbers and with two major buyers absent prices eased across all categories.
Although demand was still firm, 35 bulls penned made to 249.6 cents, up two cents on the previous week and the average was back 11 cents to 188.7 cents; 21 bullocks reached a top of 195.2 cents, and averaged three cents easier at 189.4 cents; 425 cows topped at 196.2 cents, back 10 cents and the average for cows was 155.8 cents, back 13 cents, with the yard average 14 cents easier at 160.3 cents.
