Strong buying firms market

At Pakenham VLE there were approximately 1350 export and 1200 young cattle penned, representing an increase of nearly 500 head week-on-week.
There was a full field of buyers present and operating in a generally firm market.
A larger and better quality offering of vealers sold two cents dearer for the steers and up to 14 cents per kilogram better for the heifer portion.
The mixed offering of yearling cattle held some very good lines of grain assisted and grass finished calves along with a good supply of secondary drafts suitable to feed on and restock.
Yearling trade steers and heifers sold firm along with the feeder and restocker lines.
A better quality run of grown steers and bullocks sold to solid demand to record averages close to firm.
Manufacturing steers and heavy weight grown heifers held firm.
The vealers sold from 205 cents to 264 cents per kilogram.
Yearling trade steers made between 222 cents and 260 cents per kilogram.
Yearling heifers suited to the trade sold between 200 cents and 238 cents per kilogram.
Feeder steers made from 205 cents to 230 cents with the heifer portion from 204 cents to 222 cents per kilogram.
Grown steers sold from 215 cents to 240 cents per kilogram. Bullocks made between 217 cents and 238 cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight bullocks sold between 203 cents and 225 cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight grown heifers showing good finish made from 200 cents to 215 cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers sold from 193 cents to 202 cents with the crossbred portion from 191 cents to 218 cents per kilogram.
