Drink driving charge over light pole crash

A PAKENHAM woman allegedly caught driving more than four times over the legal alcohol limit was reported to police five times before she crashed into a light pole.
Police said the 23-year-old woman fled the scene but was later found and charged at her Pakenham home.
About 6.15pm on Wednesday 2 December, Pakenham police were alerted to a report of an erratic driver.
The call was transferred over from police operating in the Latrobe Valley area as the alleged drunken driver made her way from Moe to Pakenham.
Cardinia Highway Patrol Leading Senior Constable Matt Pietzsch said police received about five calls from drivers who were concerned about the woman’s dangerous driving in the lead up to the crash.
He said the young driver veered off the road, crashing her grey BMW sedan into a light police on Cardinia Road close to the Princes Freeway at about 6.40pm.
Police alleged she then took off from the scene but was later tracked down and breathalysed at her Pakenham home.
Ldg Sen Const Pietzsch said she returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.207 when tested at the police station.
She was charged with drink driving and several other offences.
