POLICE have identified the victim of this morning’s (Friday) fatal Pakenham South collision as a 27-year-old Wantirna South man.
The male driver, who was in the car alone at the time of the collision, died at the scene following the 7.30am smash between the man’s car and an oncoming truck on Kooweerup Road.
The crash is now under police investigation, however officers have revealed the truck involved ignited in flames as a result of the impact and had to be extinguished by on-scene firefighters.
A witness posted a faraway picture of the fiery truck, describing the moments which led to the inferno.
“(There was a) “horrible, big explosion,” the witness wrote on social media.
A male driver and male passenger managed to escape the burning truck unharmed.
