Fear over stolen handguns

By ALANA MITCHELSON

THE burglary of four handguns from a Pakenham property last week has caused safety concerns.
Police said the offender had gained entry to the Overland Rise premises overnight on Tuesday 17 May via a side window, ransacked the property and had stolen a PlayStation console and four handguns.
“There’s great concern in relation to the nature of the items stolen,“ Cardinia Crime Investigation Unit detective Sergeant Duane McDonald said.
“The handguns were missing pieces and wouldn’t have been able to have been fired unless modifications were made.
“But we have an offender out in the public domain who could be using these weapons to harm or threaten people in the community.“
Police urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
