FORMER policemen were excited to get ‘back in the game’ after helping locate the culprit responsible for the “crude” vandalism of a local federal politician’s campaign signs.
Ex-copper and Federal Member for La Trobe Jason Wood called on the help of his former policemen mates to track down the offender, after receiving complaints from residents about one of his campaign signs on Main Street, Emerald.
“The crudeness of the vandalism was quite nasty. Obviously they were politically aggressive messages. A lot of profanity was being used and it was getting pretty vile,“ Mr Wood said.
“Like every election, a number of signs are vandalised but this can add up to thousands of dollars of damage.
“As well as this, it’s graffiti and it looks bad for the area.“
Mr Wood said three of his former colleagues from the police force agreed on a surveillance plan.
“They loved it because it put them back in the game,” he said.
“They were able to idenitfy the culprit, so that current police could arrest him and he was charged with criminal damage.”
Mr Wood’s crack team of ex-policemen are currently searching for a second vandal.
He urged anyone with information to contact Emerald Police.
