Friday’s Shave for a Cure had an Irish flair at Lifestyle Officer.
At a St Patrick’s Day function, three of the retirement community’s residents lopped off their beards and locks in support of the Leukaemia Foundation.
Rod Withington, Stewart Baker and Rod Jonsen shaved off their hair after fund-raising an estimated $3000 for cancer research.
The trio were supported by their Lifestyle neighbours and staff who vowed to match dollar for a dollar.
The big shave was followed by a karaoke session complete with Irish tunes.
Before the shave, Mr Baker said he expected many family and friends to turn out in support.
“It’s the first time I’ve done it and I’ve been growing the hair out for quite a while so I’m sure a lot of people will come along,” he said.
Group members said they were inspired to support the foundation after hearing about a two-year-old girl who was battling the blood cancer.
