West Gippsland’s rainfall fed pastures should be money in the bank for dairy farmers – but only if they know how to make the most of it.
Feeding Pasture for Profit (FPFP) helps develop dairy farmer skills and decision making in growing and optimising pasture consumption.
The next round of FPFP courses are about to be delivered in Warragul, with GippsDairy regional manager Allan Cameron urging dairy farmers to make the time to participate.
“Feeding Pastures for Profit is designed to not only help farmers grow more and better grass but to also take advantage of that quality pasture to improve profitability,” he said.
“Past participants have come away with improved confidence in managing rotations, more effective use of pastures, crops and feed supplements.”
The program involves two days of classroom style delivery plus five on-farm group days over the following 10-12 months.
Each participant is entitled to a one-off farm visit to support pasture rotation decisions.
The first two West Gippsland FPFP days will be held at Community College Gippsland, Korrumbura Road, Warragul, on 27 April and 4 May. Both sessions will run from 10.15am to 2.30pm.
