The state-wide police Operation Nexus, which began over the Easter long weekend, will target local school zones as students return from Easter holidays.
Pakenham police Sergeant Paul Ziebell said speeding drivers around schools will be targeted this week.
“With schools going back people need to be mindful of the 40km zones,” he said.
Sgt Ziebell also said police will continue to target local drink driving and speeding.
Last week, Road Policing Command Assistant Commissioner Doug Fryer said police would be stepping up patrols to ensure people arrive alive during the Easter and Anzac Day holidays.
“There will be an increase in police on the roads and on all major arterials over the next 13 days,” he said.
Operation Nexus is targeting speed, fatigue, distraction, seatbelt non-compliance and impaired driving.
“Road trauma is so very personal,” Mr Fryer said.
“I want our community to see that the lives lost on our roads are people within our community, not just numbers.”
The operation will continue until 11.59pm on Anzac Day, Tuesday 25 April.
