The family of Erin Elphinstone have identified her as the Gembrook woman who died in a car crash at Cockatoo.
In a tragic lead-up to the discovery of Erin’s car today, 12 May, her family made a plea to friends via her Facebook page advising that Erin was missing, and asking for any information.
They said police were looking for her and that she was last in contact with friends on Wednesday 10 May, about 9.20pm.
“Let’s hope we will find her soon” the post read.
Sadly, police located her car this morning.
Leading Senior Constable Peter Bast of Cardinia Highway Patrol confirmed this afternoon that the car was 40 metres down an embankment on the Belgrave-Gembrook Road.
Leading Sen Const Bast said it was believed the car clipped the side of the road about 11pm on Wednesday night 10 May, and that Erin had over-corrected and gone over the embankment.
Erin was the sole occupant of the vehicle and police said she died at the scene.
About 1pm today, Erin’s family confirmed the devastating news and asked for privacy.
Her Facebook page has been flooded with messages of concern and support for her family, and since the sad news, of disbelief and sadness.
Erin’s family posted their thanks “ … for all the kind words and prayers.”
“It was clear that Erin had amazing friends and was dearly loved. We will all miss her.”
