Runaway trailer hits bus

By Kyra Gillespie

A runaway trailer has T-boned a Public Transport bus carrying passengers in Pakenham.
A 22-year-old driver from Carrum Downs was turning left into Barrington Drive, off Racecourse Road, when his trailer came loose and swung into the bus, just before 4pm on Thursday 23 November.
“The trailer came unhooked and I lost control around the corner,” the visibly shaken driver said.
“I tried to brake but the trailer cracked off into the bus.
“It felt like it all happened in slow motion.”
The bus was carrying eight passengers at the time, who all came out of the accident unscathed.

Police try to work out how to remove the trailer:

Bus driver John Paul reported seeing the visibly loose trailer “jiggling” before he took the turn.
“I saw the trailer jiggling as he came around the corner, but I had cars in front of me and behind me so I couldn’t move.
“Thank God no-one was hurt. I’ve been driving for nearly three years now and nothing like this has ever happened.
“It was practically a brand new bus too.”
Two officers from the Cardinia Highway Patrol attended the scene.
