Buyers enjoy solid market

There were approximately 700 export and 400 young cattle penned representing a similar overall number week-on-week at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange.
The usual buying group was present and operating in a solid market.
Quality remained good with prime cattle throughout the yarding however there were still secondary lots and those lacking finish in places.
Vealers suited to butchers sold mostly four to five cents dearer with some sales for the better shaped B-muscle calves up to 15 cents dearer.
Yearling trade steers improved by 10 cents while the heifer portion was two to three cents better for most. Grown steers and bullocks improved by three to six cents, heavy weight friesian and crossbred manufacturing steers gained three cents, and vealers suited to butchers sold from 288 cents to 325 cents.
Yearling trade steers made between 274 cents and 298 cents after a top of 319 cents, yearling heifers to the trade sold between 254 cents and 282 cents, and grown steers made from 259 cents to 275 cents.
Bullocks sold from 252 cents to 275 cents, heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers made between 234 cents and 242 cents with the crossbred portion between 231 cents and 267 cents.
