Joe Gauci has been re-elected as Mayor of Baw Baw Shire Council.
At the council’s 15 November statutory meeting, councillors re-appointed the 2016-17 mayor to lead them through the next 12 months.
Central Ward councillor Danny Goss will serve as Deputy Mayor.
According to the shire, two councillors – Joe Gauci and Mikaela Power – expressed interest for the position of mayor, while Danny Goss, Jessica O’Donnell, Tricia Jones and Keith Cook all put their hand up for the deputy position.
Following discussions around the best possible outcomes for the community over the next year, a consensus was reached and ultimately endorsed in the chamber as to the best placed individuals to serve in these roles.
In accepting his appointment as mayor, Cr Joe Gauci thanked fellow councillors for their support throughout the year.
“I’m honoured to be re-elected mayor and very proud to be given the opportunity to serve our community,” he said.
“I look forward to continuing a cohesive team environment and a smooth working relationship between councillors, officers and, most importantly, our community.”
This will be Cr Gauci’s third consecutive term as mayor.
Cr Goss said he was very humbled to receive the backing of his fellow councillors.
“Deputy Mayor presents a great opportunity to learn more about the organisation and maybe one day I will consider the mayoral role,” Cr Goss said.
