Next generation of comedy

Tom Walker is the first cab off the rank in the second series of Comedy Next Gen on ABC Comedy on Saturday night.

Comedy Next Gen S2
ABC Comedy, Saturday, 9.20pm

Over the years one of the best things that the ABC, Aunty, our national broadcaster, has done is showcase the comedic talent of this country.
From Australia You’re Standing In It, to the D Gen and The Big Gig, the ABC has been bringing new generations of Australian comedic talent to the Australian public for a couple of generations.
And now, fresh from renaming ABC2 as ABC Comedy, comes the latest round of young comedians.
Sure we currently don’t really know Tom Walker, Becky Lucas, Nick Cody, Cameron James and Demi Lardner – but one day they might be household names like Adam Hills, Hannah Gadsby and Wendy Harmer before them.
From this Saturday night, 9 December, ABC Comedy will play host to Comedy Next Gen – a show that showcases the next generation of stand-up comedians as they perform their latest live shows.
The series features 13 comedians in their own special episode, with an exclusive interview at the start of each episode.
Filmed over 13 separate nights, the best up and coming stand-up comedians perform their acts live at venues around Australia.
Tom Walker leads off the line-up of this second series, with his show Bee Boo – a chaotic shambles of a show, which was nominated for best show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and Tom still doesn’t know why!
Bee Boo combines prop, mime, song, and stand-up into something that is, God willing, more than the sum of its parts. It’s a joyful embracing of idiocy and chaos, a completely dumb hour of nonsense with truths buddying up to lies like they’ve know each other for their whole lives.
