Blackwood murder accused ‘asked for alibi’

Kylie Blackwood was repeatedly stabbed in her Pakenham home on 1 August 2013. The committal hearing against her alleged killer has begun.

The man accused of murdering Kylie Blackwood is alleged to have asked his former partner to provide an alibi for the day the Pakenham mother-of-three was attacked in her home.
A committal hearing against Scott Alan Murdoch, 40, of Morwell has begun in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court.
Police allege Scott Alan Murdoch asked Sarah Whyte to lie for him to investigators in the weeks after Kylie Blackwood was repeatedly stabbed in her Pakenham home on 1 August 2013.
“I need to ask you something but you can’t go blabbering around with your big mouth,” Mr Murdoch is alleged to have said to Ms Whyte, according to a prosecution summary released by Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Court documents show the ex-partner “asked the accused if he murdered” Ms Blackwood.
“To which the accused replied ‘no but I need you to be an alibi for that day. I’ve been questioned for that’.”
When asked why he would need an alibi, the court summary alleges he replied “because I was doing armed burgs and I want you to say I had the kids that day and I met you at 4pm to give the kids back.”
Police allege Mr Murdoch murdered Ms Blackwood, 42, during a robbery at her McCaffery Rise home and then unsuccessfully tried to use a stolen credit card to withdraw cash from a nearby ATM.
Ms Blackwood’s body was discovered by her twin daughters when they returned from school.
Mr Murdoch was questioned at the time of Ms Blackwood’s death, but he was not charged until April last year.
Mr Murdoch is yet to enter a plea.
The hearing, which will determine whether he will stand trial, continues.
